Fully Funded A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship 2025 for MEd TESOL Students

Scholarship Information:

The A.S. Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship supports experienced English language teachers from low- and middle-income countries to pursue a Master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the University of Exeter. This fully funded scholarship is open to up to 10 candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for the program.

Recipients will benefit from full tuition coverage, a generous stipend for living expenses, and round-trip travel between their home country and the UK. To apply, candidates must first gain admission to the MEd TESOL program and meet the academic and professional experience requirements. Applicants must demonstrate potential to enhance English teaching in their home countries.

Eligible Countries:

• Global (including Nigeria and countries categorized as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income by the OECD DAC list)

Benefits:

• Full tuition fees for the MEd TESOL program
• Stipend of at least £15,500 to cover accommodation and living expenses
• Round-trip airfare to and from the UK

Program Duration:

• One year (September 2025 start date)

Requirements:

Applicants must:

1. Reside and work in a country on the OECD DAC list.
2. Have at least three years of full-time TESOL teaching or relevant professional experience after earning their first degree.
3. Hold an undergraduate degree with grades equivalent to UK upper second-class honors or higher, or a relevant postgraduate degree.
4. Submit an application to the MEd TESOL program at the University of Exeter to receive a student number. This number is required to complete the Hornby Scholarship application.

2. Obtain your Exeter student number upon application approval.
3. Complete the Hornby Scholarship application form using your student number.
4. Prepare and upload a cover letter (up to 1,000 words) addressing the following:

   • An example of how you’ve supported other teachers’ development.
   • Why you’re a suitable candidate for this scholarship.
